How to Create a Tournament

A step-by-step guide to setting up a tournament in PadelOS, covering every field in the creation form.

This guide walks through the tournament creation form in the order you'll see it. Once the tournament is saved, see How to Run a Tournament for what happens next.

To start from an existing tournament instead of a blank form, use the Copy From Another button at the top right of the form.

Step 1: Club

Use the Club dropdown at the top of the form to choose which club this tournament belongs to. If you manage multiple clubs, make sure you select the correct one before you continue.

Step 2: Basic Info

Tournament Name: A clear, descriptive name. This is the title players see when browsing.

Labels: Internal tags for your own tracking and reporting. Players never see them.

Categories: A player-facing category that players can use to filter tournaments. For the difference between the two, see the Labels vs. Categories article.

Description: A full description of the tournament, shown to players. Supports basic formatting such as bold, italic, lists and links.

Club Page Visibility: Controls whether the tournament appears on your club's public page.

Step 3: Format, Scoring and Type

Tournament Format Choose how the tournament is played. The formats available now are:

  • Open Format

  • Americano

  • King of Court

Mexicano, Knock Out and Single Elimination are shown in the list as Coming Soon and can't be selected yet.

In an Americano, each player competes individually while playing in rotating pairs. Everyone forms temporary teams throughout the tournament, and it finishes once everyone has had the chance to play with everyone else. See Planning an Americano below for practical tips.

Scoring Format Choose how matches are scored. The options are:

  • 16, 21, 24 or 32: the total number of points a match is played to. In a 24 point match, for example, the two teams' points add up to 24, so a match can finish 10 to 14.

  • Custom, Standard or Classic: the other scoring options in the list.

For competitive tournaments, the scoring format also affects how much each match counts toward ratings. Longer matches count for more. See How Player Ratings Are Calculated.

Tournament Divisions Choose who the tournament is for. You can tick one or more of:

  • All Doubles

  • Men's Doubles

  • Women's Doubles

Tournament Organizers Assign one or more organizers to the tournament.

Tournament Type Choose Friendly or Competitive:

  • Competitive: results affect player ratings.

  • Friendly: results do not affect ratings.

The form opens on Friendly by default, so change it to Competitive if you want the tournament to count toward ratings.

Step 4: Sport

Select the sport for the tournament. The form opens on Padel.

Step 5: Who Can Join

Rating Range Toggle Rating Range on to limit registration to players within a skill band. Enter a Minimum Rating and a Maximum Rating. The form tells you the minimum and maximum values you're allowed to enter.

Verified rating only: When enabled, only players with a verified rating can join the tournament.

Age Restriction (Optional) Enter a Min Age and Max Age to limit the tournament to a specific age group, for example a junior tournament. Leave both empty if there's no age limit.

Step 6: Assign Courts

Toggle Assign Courts on, then select the courts that will host the tournament.

The panel on the right shows Total Sessions and a Conflicts count. Once you've chosen the courts, start date, start time, end date and end time, it lists the available courts for those times. Check it before you save to avoid double bookings.

Step 7: Date & Time

Set when the tournament takes place:

  • Start Date and End Date

  • Start Time and End Time

These values are also used to build the court availability list in the right-hand panel.

Step 8: Registration Deadline

Control when registration opens and closes, counted in days before the tournament starts.

Open Registration: how many days before the start registration opens to players.

Close Registration: how many days before the start registration closes.

Leave them as Not Applicable if you don't want to set a registration window.

Step 9: Visibility and Waiting List

Scoreboard Visibility: When enabled, the scoreboard is only shown once the tournament is complete. When it's off, players can see scores after you add them.

Show Participants On Tournament Public Page: When enabled, registered participants are displayed on the tournament's page on the club page.

Add Users In Waiting List: When enabled, players are added to a waiting list once the maximum limit is reached.

All three are off by default.

Step 10: Internal Notes, Gallery and Attachments

Internal Notes: Private notes visible only to your admin team.

Gallery: Upload images to show on the tournament page. Click Upload Images.

Attachments: Attach PDF documents such as rules or schedules. Click Upload PDF.

Step 11: Save

Click Save Changes to create the tournament. To leave without saving, click Cancel.

Planning an Americano

A few practical points when setting up an Americano:

  • Minimum participants: 4 players.

  • Courts: ideally 1 court for every 4 players.

  • Skill levels: works well for mixed skill levels, although very large differences may call for separate groups.

  • Duration: allow about 2 hours for a complete tournament.

  • Match length: about 10 minutes for a 24 point match, so choose the scoring format with your time in mind.

For what to do once the tournament is created, see the How to Run a Tournament article.
